Exclamation MSN Chat

In October 2003, MSN Chat shut down its chat rooms in Europe, The Middle East, Latin America and most of Asia and made it a subscription-only service in the rest of the US because of "concerns about child safety" (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3133192.stm or http://www.zdnetasia.com/news/busine...152322,00.htm).

If MSN Chat can be closed down due to "concerns about pedophiles and sex predators", then why should somewhere like MySpace remain open or free? Already we see big steps like this being taken to reduce the amount of sex-related internet crime, so banning MySpace would just be another step in the right direction.

Banning sites that does not endorse illegal behavior is cencorship. If the company itself wants to close certain aspects of itself, that's fine. But never should it be forced to comply to the government.

It's the parent's job to keep watch of their kids, not the company. Do you sue the bank when your son allows a stranger into your house? No.

There is still other means to have chatting online, shutting down one services will just make the user goes to others to contiune their chatting...

I would have to say this. Most teens deserve what they get on myspace seriosly its what they put on there that alot of freaks or rapists or any other type of guy looks at their page and says oh she's easy. or Damn she's hott! thats what they will say. So that basically one reason why most teen's get showed on t.v. saying missing or murdered or wanted for rape so dont blame it on myspace. Blame it on your kids fools. Ask to take a look at you kids profile and say to them put it on private or make them require for whoever wants to be their friend make it so the person has to know your kids last name keep them safe!

Default Agreed

18forlife i agree totally. It's the kid's fault for what happens to them, but the problem is that they dont know how to use and stay safe on the internet.

Until children have to take courses and be taught how to use the internet, it's not safe to let them use things like MySpace. Myspace, tagged, bebo, whatever, people need to learn how to use the internet before they should be allowed to use these kinds of websites. I agree the children are to be blamed, but MySpace is just a tool where they can show their ignorance.
